The best board shop on the planet, Switchback Longboards, has once again sponsored the Giant’s Head Freeride! Instead of cash this year, they gave us a box of hunky firefighter calendars. The team over here is working hard to figure out how these will help us put on a skateboarding event.

We caught up with shop owner, Kelsey Crosier (pictured below), to ask a few questions about this year’s event:

Kelsey Crosier is no stranger to love.

GHF: Kelsey, will you be driving the bus out to Giant’s Head this year?

Kelsey: You know the rules, and so do I.

GHF: Which members of the team will be taking the trip this year?

Kelsey: A full commitment is what I’m thinking of.

GHF: First, you had the bus. Then you got the limo. Now we hear that you guys recently acquired a boat. And that you plan to sail to Danger Bay, even though nobody in the shop has any qualifications or knowledge about boating or boat safety. Was this your idea?

Kelsey: [Laughs] You’re not gonna get this from any other guy.

GHF: True. The Switchback trips I’ve been on have always been rowdy. I mean, people get crazy. But, you are always so calm, collected and happy. How do you do it? Do you express yourself through the inebriation of others?

Kelsey: [Long pause] …I just want to tell you how I’m feeling. Gotta make you understand. We’ve known each other for so long.

GHF: Yeah. Wait, are you crying?

Landyachtz presents Giant’s Head Freeride 5

We’re happy to announce today that the legendary Vancouver-based skateboard company Landyachtz will be the title sponsor for GHF5!

The Landyachtz crew will be shredding the hill hard this summer. In addition to bringing some of the best riders in the sport, expect to see the latest gear from Landyachtz, such as boards, wheels and other products, being put to the test at the ultimate proving grounds, Giant’s Head.

The event is running August 4th, 5th, and 6th of 2012! We will be announcing our registration date very, very, very soon. Maybe even sooner than that!

We thought it would be fun to film some of the planning sessions for this year’s freeride event at Giant’s Head. We just need to put some final touches on the dinosaur fight scene that takes place on an aircraft carrier. What does that have to do with downhill longboarding? You’ll have to check back here to find out.
